"Levinson has used his camera as cameras often want to be used: as creators of dreamscapes, as traps for fugitive weathers and atmospheres we can hardly see, but only sense."

                                                                        ...........John Bentley Mays, National Post

Steve Levinson was born in Toronto and lived in the Beach area of the city before packing up family, camera, and pooch and moving to the beautiful hills of Northumberland just north of Port Hope, a quaint and friendly town about 60 miles east of Toronto.

Steve originally took up photography in the 1970s and won awards in his first two competitions. After creating a series of musical photographic productions that were presented to a number of prominent organizations, Steve put his camera aside in order to follow other artistic pursuits. In particular, switching his appearances from the back of a camera to the front, Steve performed for many years on television and radio where he was a nationally syndicated writer, performer and host of features for Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's "CBC Newshour", the Journal, Canada AM, CBC Radio Noon, As It Happens, and many other shows. He has been a columnist and contributor to a number of different magazines and has hosted and co-written educational videos for a variety of corporations and film production companies.

Steve returned actively to the art of photography in the fall of 2000, and his recent exhibition at the A.K. Collings Gallery in Port Hope represents his fourth solo show. Previous solo exhibitions include two at the Painted City Gallery in Toronto, and one at the Left Bank in Port Hope. Steve’s images have also been on view at the Art Gallery of Ontario Rental Gallery, the Gallery at First Canadian Place, the Northumberland Art Gallery, and many others. His work is represented in over 100 private collections, and has been selected by a number of major design firms including those of Brian Gluckstein, Greta Valen, Michael Doyle, Judith Copeland and Aurelie Collings.

Steve is a photographic “purist”. He virtually never uses special filters or extensive digital alterations of his images. Most of his images are candid and captured spontaneously just as he saw them. Steve’s photographs have been described as “atmospheric, romantic, and abstract,” and are printed as either  Cibachrome/FujiFlex glossy prints, or as Giclees (Pigment Prints on water colour paper).

Steve Levinson has an eclectic background in the performing arts. A former professional jazz dancer and choreographer, Steve has played clarinet with a number of ensembles, teaches wine appreciation, and has publicly performed as a magician.

Steve Levinson is a Graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine and was born "somewhere between Mozart and Madonna." He currently works at his "day jobs" as a Physician in General Practice,  Psychotherapist, private Lifestyle Lecturer/Coach, Columnist for "SNAP" magazine, and Consultant to Edelman Public Relations Firm, Toronto's Rosedale Wellness Centre, the Hillcrest Inn and Spa, and Traveltowellness.com.

Steve's wife, Dr. Jocelyn Pearce, is a Dentist, Consultant, and Past-President of the Ontario Dental Association. Steve and Jocelyn live with their two adorable dogs, two adorable sons, and three of the world's cutest but most neurotic cats.

Distinguished Canadian photographer John Reeves has called Steve’s photographic images “some of the best work I have seen in years.”
